Discover the FUN of encaustic (warm pigmented waxes) printmaking, basic monoprinting techniques, collage with wax & a wee bit of “mixed media mania” to create your own unique imagery! Encaustic Wax & Mixed Media Art Workshop in the “heart” of Mexico!

 A 3-day intensive workshop with the option of a 4th open studio day!

Focus of this workshop:

• Gather imagery of textures, patterns, shapes & colors in the lovely, historic city of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and learn a little history along the way. We will do a “discovery walk” at the beginning of class.

• Learn the basics of working with encaustic wax and mixed media materials

• Create small art “tacTILE panels” that express the diverse “surfaces” of San Miguel de Allende & Mexico. Option to assemble into larger works

• Leave with a “sense of place” and beautiful imagery to develop for further projects

• This is a “process-oriented” workshop; it’s not imperative to “finish” an art piece.

Discover the joys of working in warm, pigmented wax (known as “encaustic paints”) and oil-based media while creating gorgeous, ethereal landscapes. Follow in the steps of artists like J.M.W. Turner and Wolf Kahn, both of whom created “dream-like” landscapes in both oils and pastels. We will begin with a few encaustic painting “basics”, then create “minimalist” landscapes on small panels. You will be introduced to the use of oil-based media with encaustic wax, incorporating oil sticks, oil paints and oil pastels.
